The inspiration behind the Lady Bird VHS design came from my love for retro technology, whether that be cassettes, vinyls, or vhs. With the story of Lady Bird taking place within the early 2000s, I also felt it was fitting to imagine what such a coming-of-age tale would look like in its own era. I wanted to embrace the messiness of teenage character Christine, and the mix of both her upbringing with Catholic-inspired type and motifs, but also the collage thrown-together feel of being a flawed youth.
